Every Eid al-Adha, Islamic Relief is on the ground, aiming to enrich the lives of the poor and needy all over the world, making their Eid a blessed one.

Through your generous donations and sacrifice, we’re able to provide Qurbani meat – an essential source for many – to families who might otherwise not be able to afford it throughout the year.

This year, we reached more than 2.9 million people in 27 countries around the world.

We have also been distributing gifts to vulnerable children and orphans through our Eid Gifts programme, aiming to deliver 18,000 Eid gifts such as clothes, shoes, school uniforms and school bags to children and families in 18 countries.

Here, we explore how your donations positively impacted families around the world this Eid.

A gift for Eid al-Adha  Asia’s story

For 44-year-old mother of three, Asia, buying Eid gifts for her children is a luxury she can’t afford. Working in her neighbourhood in Bangladesh as a domestic helper, her wages come in the form of food.

Along with her husband Abdul, 51, they struggle to provide food for her two sons, a 16 and 17-year-old who are both physically disabled, and their daughter, 22.

Asia explains:

We manage to have meals twice a day, but securing three meals a day is a real challenge. We cannot afford to buy Eid gifts for our children.

Through your donations this year, Islamic Relief was able to provide 510 families in Bangladesh with an Eid gift pack which included various items such as clothing, 2kg of premium rice, chocolate, coloured pencils and a school bag – an item which was a big hit with Asia’s youngest son, who attends Madrasa (Islamic school).

“He had to struggle carrying books in his hands without a school bag. Now, he is happy because he can carry his books in a backpack,” she explains. “We are also delighted because we will be able to cook pulao (fried rice) on Eid day. The children are thrilled to have chocolates and coloured pencils.”
