Heavy rains and flooding cause widespread destruction

Heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and landslides continue to impact Pakistan, leaving over 799 people dead and destroying more than 5,000 homes. The destruction is overwhelming and, since late June 2025, over 1000 people have reportedly been injured.

The heavy rainfall has affected large parts of the country, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. This, combined with flash flooding, has caused damage and destruction to buildings and farms, and hundreds of families have also lost their livestock.

The most recent spell in mid-August triggered devastating flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan, causing extensive loss of life and property. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, over 300 lost their lives and more than 200 were injured.

There are forecasts of more flooding in the coming weeks.

Our current response

Islamic Relief teams are on the ground in Pakistan and are helping affected families during this devastating time. We are closely monitoring the situation, should it get worse.

Our response includes:

  • Evacuating and relocating affected communities
  • Providing cooked meals and clean drinking water to stranded families
  • Food packs (including canned food and other essentials) for people in need
  • Providing temporary shelter
  • Delivering hygiene kits to help prevent the outbreak of water-borne diseases

As the rains and floods continue, Islamic Relief plans to reach around 100,000 people with lifesaving emergency assistance through the devastation, followed by longer-term recovery and rehabilitation over the next 12 to 18 months.

Emergency relief and recovery plans

We aim to reach 15,000 families (approximately 100,000 individuals) across the most affected areas.

Our strategy includes:

  1. Saving lives: An initial three-month period during which we will focus on the provision of food, water and other essentials.
  2. Recovery and rehabilitation: A 12 to 18-month phase aimed at restoring livelihoods, shelter and basic services.
  3. Long-term development: Transitioning to sustainable development initiatives in line with evolving needs and government priorities.

Our teams in Pakistan remain fully committed to standing with vulnerable communities throughout this crisis; but we need your urgent support to ensure that timely, coordinated and impactful support reaches those most in need.
