  • 1.Description of Goods and Services
  • Islamic Relief is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) established in the UK in 1984 and registered in South Africa as a Section 21 non-profit company in 2004. The organization collaborates with communities to enhance their resilience to disasters, providing critical emergency aid when necessary. It facilitates access to basic services such as education, healthcare, and water and sanitation while fostering sustainable development initiatives. Islamic Relief addresses poverty’s root causes, empowering vulnerable populations and ensuring they have influence in programs and advocacy efforts. Guided by Islamic faith and values, the organization aims to create a caring world where social obligations are fulfilled, and communities are empowered to respond collectively to global suffering.

  • 2.Return / Refund Policy
  • Islamic Relief South Africa is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and donor satisfaction in all transactions. This refund policy applies exclusively to transactions conducted through the Islamic Relief South Africa website and excludes donations made in person or via EFT.

    • 2.1One-Time Transactions
      • 2.1.1Donations are processed immediately upon authorization.
      • 2.1.2The default online payment methods include VISA, VISA Debit, and Mastercard.
      • 2.1.3Bank account updates for such transactions are typically visible within 5-7 business days.
    • 2.2Recurring Transactions
      • 2.2.1Recurring donations may be arranged via monthly credit card payments through the website.
      • 2.2.2For alternative frequencies or direct debit donations (available only for South African banks), donors are required to contact Islamic Relief South Africa directly.
      • 2.2.3If a scheduled donation date falls on a weekend, the transaction will be processed on the next business day.
    • 2.3Cancellation of Recurring Donations
      • 2.3.1Donors may cancel recurring donations by providing a minimum of 10 days’ written or verbal notice to Islamic Relief South Africa.
      • 2.3.2Donors may also request modifications, such as increasing, decreasing, or suspending their contributions, by contacting the organization directly.
      • 2.3.3Cancelations will not apply to payments that have already been processed or are currently in progress. If a payment is pending or has been initiated within the 10 day notice period, the cancellation will take effect from the next scheduled donation cycle.
      • 2.3.4Cancellation or modification requests can be submitted via:

      • 2.4.1Refunds will only be issued if an error has occurred during the donation process. Errors include, but are not limited to:
        • 2.4.1.1duplicate payments made in error;
        • 2.4.1.2Incorrect amounts entered during the donation process; and
        • 2.4.1.3technical processing issues, such as system errors or failing transactions resulting in unintended charges.
      • 2.4.2Requests must be submitted within 24 hours of the transaction.

    • 2.5Refund Processing
      • 2.5.1Approved refunds for credit card donations will be credited back to the original payment card.

      • 2.5.3Refund processing may take up to 5-7 business days to reflect in the donor’s account, depending on the donor’s financial institution.
    • 2.6Adjustments and Authorization
      • 2.6.1Islamic Relief South Africa reserves the right to make necessary adjustments if an incorrect amount has been debited.
      • 2.6.2Donors authorize their financial institutions to rectify such inconsistencies as required.

      • 3.1.1Active Collection: Personal information is provided directly by individuals when they:
        • 3.1.1.1make a donation or sign up for a campaign;
        • 3.1.1.2register for or attend events; or
        • 3.1.1.3contact the organization via email, telephone, letter, or website.
      • 3.1.2Passive Collection: Islamic Relief South Africa automatically collects certain data through website interactions to enhance security, improve user experience, and ensure compliance with legal obligations. This includes:
        • 3.1.2.1IP addresses, device identifiers, browser type and site activity logs, used to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions, enhance website functionality and personalize user experience and ensure compliance with security measures and regulatory requirements.
        • 3.1.2.2Cookies, which track usage patterns, facilitate navigation, and enable website analytics. Users can manage cookie preferences through browser settings, but disabling cookies may impact website functionality.

        • 3.4.4.1compliance with tax laws, fraud investigations, or legal obligations;
        • 3.4.4.2responding to court orders or official requests under applicable laws; or
        • 3.4.4.3for background checks, using public sources and third-party screening services, in accordance with due diligence policies.
      • Islamic Relief South Africa ensures that all third-party contracts include data protection clauses to prevent misuse and safeguard data security.

    • 3.5Data Retention and Security

      Personal data is retained for as long as necessary to fulfill operational and legal requirements. However, individuals may request the deletion of their data unless retention is mandated by law. The organization employs robust security measures to protect data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

  • 4.Delivery Policy
    • 4.1Islamic Relief South Africa does not deliver physical goods. Instead, all donations and payments processed through Islamic Relief South Africa are allocated to support the organization’s mission of mobilizing resources, building partnerships, and addressing poverty and disaster relief needs globally.
    • 4.2Email Confirmation: Donors will receive an electronic confirmation of their donation via email, which serves as proof of the transaction.
    • 4.3Record-Keeping: Donors are encouraged to retain email confirmations for their records. In case of non-receipt, they may contact Islamic Relief South Africa to request a duplicate confirmation.

  • 5.Currency
    • 5.1All financial transactions and donations conducted via Islamic Relief South Africa are denominated in South African Rand (ZAR).
    • 5.2International Donations: Donations made using international credit or debit cards may be subject to currency conversion by the donor’s bank.
    • 5.3Additional Fees: Donors should check with their financial institution regarding possible currency conversion fees or foreign transaction charges, which Islamic Relief South Africa does not control.

  • Islamic Relief South Africa operates and is domiciled within the Republic of South Africa.

  • 7.Governing Law
    • 7.1This policy, along with all online transactions conducted through Islamic Relief South Africa, shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
    • 7.2Cross-Border Disputes: For international donors, any disputes arising from transactions with Islamic Relief South Africa shall still be governed by South African law, and donors agree to submit to the jurisdiction of South African courts.

    • 8.1Islamic Relief South Africa is committed to complying with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and ensuring the responsible processing of personal information in line with the Act’s principles.
    • 8.2POPIA applies to any processing of personal information conducted by Islamic Relief South Africa, including information collected from donors, beneficiaries, employees, and stakeholders. As a non-profit organization, Islamic Relief South Africa ensures that personal data is processed lawfully, transparently, and securely in accordance with the Act by ensuring that it upholds key principles such as:
      • 8.2.1Accountability: Islamic Relief South Africa takes
      • 8.2.2Processing Limitation: Personal data is collected and processed only for legitimate, specific, and explicitly defined purposes. No excessive or unnecessary data will be processed.
      • 8.2.3Purpose Specification: Personal data is used only for the stated purpose at the time of collection, such as processing donations, issuing tax receipts, and providing updates on the organization’s activities.
      • 8.2.4Information Quality: Islamic Relief South Africa takes reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is accurate, complete, and up to date. Individuals may request corrections where necessary.
      • 8.2.5Transparency: Individuals will be informed of what data is collected, why it is collected, how it will be used, and with whom it may be shared. The organization will provide access to its Privacy Policy to ensure donor awareness.
