Since April 2023, brutal fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have resulted in the killing of more than 150,000 people in Sudan, although the collapse of formal reporting systems means that the actual toll is likely much higher. Meanwhile, nearly 25 million people – over half of the population – are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

With more than 8.8 million people displaced, Sudan is also one of the largest displacement crises in the world today. Families are living in overcrowded shelters, makeshift camps, or completely out in the open. Ongoing violence and looting have destroyed markets, homes, roads and hospitals, leaving civilians with little to no access to food, water or medical care.

Sudan is now one of the world’s worst hunger crises, with 4.9 million people experiencing emergency-level hunger; nearly 730,000 children severely malnourished; and famine-like conditions taking hold in hard-to-reach areas, where humanitarian access is severely restricted.
