Position Title: Corporate and Institutional Fundraiser

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Reports To: Head of Fund Development

 

Purpose of Position

The Corporate and Institutional Fundraiser is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure funding from corporate partners and institutional donors. This role focuses on building and managing relationships with key stakeholders, writing grant proposals, and ensuring the successful acquisition and stewardship of funds to support Islamic Relief South Africa’s programmes and initiatives.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Fundraising Strategy and Planning:
    • Develop and execute a strategic plan for corporate and institutional fundraising in alignment with the organisation’s goals.
    • Identify potential corporate and institutional partners, researching their funding priorities and giving patterns.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with corporate partners, foundations, and institutional donors.
    • Organise and attend meetings, presentations, and events to engage with potential and existing donors.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for corporate and institutional donors, ensuring effective communication and relationship management.
  • Proposal Development and Grant Writing:
    • Prepare compelling grant proposals, funding applications, and sponsorship packages tailored to the interests of corporate and institutional donors.
    • Collaborate with programme staff to gather relevant information and develop proposals that align with donor requirements.
    • Ensure timely submission of grant proposals and funding applications.
  • Donor Stewardship and Reporting:
    • Develop and implement donor stewardship plans to acknowledge and recognise contributions from corporate and institutional partners.
    • Prepare and deliver reports to donors on the impact of their contributions, ensuring transparency and accountability.
    • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, funding agreements, and reporting requirements.
  • Event Coordination and Sponsorship:
    • Plan and coordinate fundraising events, including corporate sponsorship opportunities, to enhance donor engagement and support.
    • Develop marketing and promotional materials for fundraising events and sponsorship initiatives.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work closely with the Head of Fund Development and other team members to align fundraising efforts with organisational priorities.
    • Participate in team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
    • Share insights and best practices with colleagues to enhance the overall effectiveness of the fundraising team.
  • Market Research and Analysis:
    • Stay informed about trends, developments, and best practices in corporate and institutional fundraising.
    • Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and innovative approaches to fundraising.
    • Analyse fundraising performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
 

Educational Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on corporate and institutional partnerships.
  • Proven track record of securing significant funding from corporate and institutional donors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create persuasive proposals and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising software and donor management systems.
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector, preferably within the context of international humanitarian aid and development.
